Self timer

As an electronics engineer, I thought it would be a nice little project to build a digitally controlled self timer for my 500CM.

My intention was to use a small microcontroller and a real-time clock chip to control a micro servo connected to a cable release. I was thinking of using one timer to control the delay before triggering the shutter and another timer to allow for long bulb exposures. At least the latter one will be adjustable, but depending on economy, space and components the first might be fixed to say 15 seconds (maybe two or three fixed delays; 10, 20 or 30 seconds.)

There are plenty of servos intended for RC cars and aircraft on evilbay, but I'd like to know the approximate force necessary to trigger the shutter through a cable release. The smallest servos I've found delivers about 1 kg/cm, will this be enough you think?

Emil

It's possible, but I already have a CM and I'm not keen on buying a ELM/ELX for two reasons: economy and space. I don't have the money to spend on a second body (I'd rather save up for a CF 180) and I don't want to carry around a camera with a permanent motordrive, it's to big and heavy.
